Kingdom Hearts 3 Review

7 years since the last mainline Kingdom Hearts game (3D) and a whopping 13 since the 2nd iteration in the series, Kingdom Hearts 3 released on January 25th in Japan and the 29th for all other regions. The final in the so called “dark seeker saga,” the series has spanned 17 years, over 10 games and just as many platforms. So how did it turn out?

First of all, this review WILL contain spoilers, for past games as well as this one. If you don’t want to be spoiled, the beginning of the review will be spoiler free. Major spoilers will be present however, in the second half.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Nintendo Switch Direct: Impressions

So Nintendo finally gave us more details on their new console after first showing it with that video last year, and what a showing it was.

Nintendo Switch

It all sounded good at first. They showed a price, release date and revealed that the Switch, unlike their other consoles would FINALLY be region free! No longer do you have to buy another version of the same console just to play a game that they weren’t willing to release in the west. The price of $299 USD was a bit high but most people were expecting them to price it at that range. March 3rd as the release day was a shocker as well.I along with most people probably expected middle or late March, not 6 weeks out from the announcement date. All in all though, things were going smoothly.

Hello! Project Songs on Wii Karaoke U by Joysound

If you happen to own Wii U or know someone who does, and if you happen to be a Hello! Project fan, it might delight you to know that there are some familiar songs featured on Wii Karaoke U! Other Jpop idol songs are available as well, but since H!P is what I know, this list is focused on them. There are enough songs for a few hours of entertainment, at least, and in places without authentic Japanese karaoke options, Wii Karaoke U is a somewhat decent replacement!

Note that I am listing the songs as they are marked on their website, so there may be weird spellings and typos on their end. By using their spellings, it should be easier to find the songs and artists on their service.

Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo (Edmonton Expo) attracts record attendance of 47,000

A growing ‘geek’ movement, additional third day (Friday), expanded exhibition space, and starry line-up result in record-breaking numbers exceeding pre-event expectations (35,000)
Clipboard01-1024x733
Edmonton, AB (Sunday, September 28), 10:00 pm MST The third annual Edmonton Comic & Entertainment Expo (Edmonton Expo) concluded today in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, after welcoming more than 47,000 fans over three days – a 20,000 increase over 2013. Attendance exceeded the expectations of show presenters, who estimated the show would attract 35,000, suggesting that Edmonton Expo’s growth will be something to watch in the coming years. Presenters attribute the increase to a growing movement for people to embrace what makes them ‘geeky’, the expansion of the show to three days (adding Friday evening), increased exhibition space, and an attractive line up of workshops, panels, attractions, and invited guests.
“Edmonton Expo is actually growing at a faster rate than any of the other shows I work with, including the Calgary Expo. Edmonton is a proud nerdy city, and I can’t wait to see how this show grows in the coming years,” said Emily Expo, Edmonton Expo’s host and spokesperson, who also represents Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo, and Saskatoon Comic & Entertainment Expo. “The tremendous growth of this convention is a true testament of the passion and dedication of our fans, volunteers, exhibitors, and guests. We’re so proud of how the nerd community has come together to create this fantastic event.”

The panels were the main feature. JPHiP caught up with the festivities on Sunday and we were blown away. First we had cult hero Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite fame. He admitted that he felt right at home at conventions such as Edmonton Expo.  “I love geeky stuff,” he said imitating his character. The Zelda fan entertained the crowd with his dance moves and interpretation of what it would be like if he was cast as Batman’s sidekick Robin.

My Little Skyrim: shirenu roleplays a Khajiit alchemist who hates confrontation

Disclaimer: Not an expert on video games.

After getting burned out playing Skyrim the usual way of trying to complete every questline possible, I decided it was time to give a chance to a more immersive roleplaying experience. I installed two mods: Alternate Start – Live Another Life and additional encounters to the landscape to give Skyrim a livelier (more hostile) atmosphere.

What Alternate Start does is get rid of the original beginning with the long carriage ride and dragon attack. Instead you are trapped in a cell, left to rot, only able to interact with a statue of Mara that grants you a new life. You are given a list of options which allow you to begin your new journey from a randomized location. How many possessions you have and what type of location you begin from depends on which option you choose.
